Przemyśl Fortress - Fort I "Salis Soglio"
Local name: Twierdza Przemyśl - Fort I "Salis Soglio"
The main artillery fort "Salis Soglio" is one of the best-preserved objects in the outer ring of the Przemyśl Fortress. The huge, three-storey building for long-range defense owes its name to one of the constructors of the fortress, General Daniel Salis-Soglio. You can see here, among others entrance gate, barracks with casemates, artillery positions, ammunition elevator shafts and shelters for the crew located on the shaft. The southern section of the black fortress trail and the green-marked fortress cycle path lead to the fort.
Initially, "Salis Soglio" was supposed to be an armored fort. It was built on a pentagonal plan in the years 1882-1886. At the end of the first siege of the fortress, in October 1914, it was the "Salis Soglio" and the surrounding auxiliary forts that formed the so-called The Siedliska group was the target of the fiercest attacks. In March 1915, before the surrender of the unconquered, but cut off from sources of supply, the fortress was partially blown up.
Near the fort, there is the "Skarpa Jaksmanicka" reserve, where you can see a rare bird - the bee-eater.
