Bełkotka Spring
Local name: Źródło Bełkotka
Recognized as a natural monument, the oldest health spring in Iwonicz-Zdrój is situated on the top of Łysówka. Its name comes from bubbles of methane which make bubbling sounds when they burst on the surface. According to old publications, there was so much concentration of gas that it was possible to put Bełkotka on fire.
The legend says that during the storm one of the lightings hit the spring and was imprisoned inside. Characteristic sound the spring makes is the lighting trying to escape to this day.The bust of Wincenty Pol, Polish poet, geographer awarded with Order of Virtuti Militari, is placed above the spring. The poem "Bełkotka" was inscribed under the monument.Less
