Monumental Opatów Palace in Oliwa - National Museum Modern Art Department is located in the area of Oliwa Park. It's the headquarters of one of the branches of the National Museum in Gdańsk. Its collection is dedicated to modern art and consists of 400 works from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The most important exhibition is the Permanent Gallery of Polish Modern Art with the collection of paintings by Jan Matejko, Olga Boznańska, Jacek Malczewski, Stanisław Wyspiański, Józef Pankiewicz and others. Apart from paintings, the museum also consists of ceramic art and sculptures.Theatre Department and three art workshops operate here. The facility organizes old and modern music concerts. The palace itself is also interesting. Its oldest part - Old Palace - was built in the 15th century. New Palace was added in the 17th century and rebuilt a century later. The building was a headquarters of abbots for ages. Since 1929, it operates as a museum.Less
