Oliwa Cathedral

Local name: Archikatedra Oliwska

Archcathedral Basilica in Oliwa, also known as Oliwa Cathedral, is one of the most known Gdańsk's churches. Its history dates back to the 12th century while its oldest parts from the interior come from the 17th century. The basilica consists of the famous, large pipe organs used during masses and numerous concerts as well.

Archcathedral Basilica in Oliwa is a basilica with three naves and a transept. It's decorated with two 46-meter tall towers. They are located on both sides of the portal which, just as three windows and three cartouches, comes from the end of the 17th century.

The interior combines four styles of architecture: Baroque, Renaissance, classical, and Rococo. Every style is represented by pieces of sacral art. Most of the altars were built in Baroque and Rococo styles. The rich decor of the cathedral is complemented by numerous epitaphs, baldachins, or monumental chandeliers.

What is interesting, Oliwa Cathedral is the longest Cistercian church in the world what makes it an attractive tourist destination.
