The unique on a European scale object comes from the end of the 16th century. This workshop, called hammer mill, produced big chunks of metal which were then sent to smaller forges. The forge consists of two parts divided in the middle by Oliwa Stream. Each part has a heating stove and a power hammer powered by a water wheel.
The workshop operated until 1947. Later, it became a museum and thanks to that it preserved. The museum organized demonstrations of work of old blacksmiths, exhibitions of photographs, golden, monumental cars, battles of Knight Brotherhood, and even jazz concerts. Since 2017, the forge belongs to Gdańsk and isn't opened to the public.Dolina Radośći (residential area) is located nearby. It is a popular place for strolls. It consists of two tourists tracks: Szymbarskie Hills (black) and Kartuski (blues). There was a headquarters of State Forests in the past and a ski jump before the war but it didn't preserve to this day. The zoological garden also can be found here. The entire area can be admired from the viewpoint on the top of Pachołek Hill.Less
