Museum of the Small Town

Local name: Muzeum Małego Miasta

The Museum of the Small Town in Bieżuń is the only object in Poland presenting the history of small cities from the second half of the 19th century. It consists of the ethnographic expositions showing the history of Bieżuń and its inhabitants. The reconstructed interiors of doctor's office, townsman living room, and bedroom let visitors feel the atmosphere of the then times.

The facility also organizes temporary exhibitions presenting works by local artists and the regional art. The library with rich collection of books including, among others, the bibliography of Bieżuń's poet Stefan Gołębiowski, is situated near the museum. The facility also operates as a publishing house which puts out, among others, "Bieżuńskie Zeszyty Historyczne" (Bieżun's Historical Books") dedicated to the history of local people, town and the region.

Because of the variety of its activities, the facility is an important cultural center for the local community. It organizes events, competitions for youth and adolescents, and educational lessons.
