The well-preserved high main wing, so-called Great House, is the only part that remained from the Gothic castle which was situated in the picturesque place by Działdówka. At the beginning of the 21st century, the west wing, entrance gate, and the courtyard's walls were rebuilt. The historical interior consists of the old refectory with Gothic vaults.
The objects date back to 1306 when its construction was initiated by the Teutonic Order which took over this area from the Bishop of Chełm. In the beginning, the castle was a headquarters of pfleger and then it was a residence of voyt. It had a rectangular shape and two towers. Its courtyard and south wing were surrounded by walls and moat. Its defense was additionally enhanced by wetlands, swamps, and the river. In 1525, when the castle's owner was Duke Albert of Prussia, it was rebuilt into Renaissance style. It fell into Polish hands twice - for the first time in 1410 and then during the Thirty Years' War. In the next years, it had been frequently dismantled, went through a great fire in 1868, and at last fell into ruin. It was reconstructed at the end of the 20th century. Nowadays, the castle is occupied by the Municipality Office.Less
