Grunwald battlefield

Local name: Pole bitwy pod Grunwaldem

The battlefield at Grunwald includes wooded areas and meadows, as well as a monumental complex, as well as the ruins of a battle chapel. In 2010, in accordance with the ordinance of the President of the Republic of Poland, she obtained the status of a monument of history. The unquestioned victory of the combined Polish and Lithuanian forces over the Teutonic forces took place on July 15, 1410. It was one of the largest battles in medieval Europe.

Every year, around July 15, Grunwald Days are celebrated. Apart from patriotic ceremonies, they are graced by a great staging of the Grunwald battle, in which numerous knight fraternities from both Poland and abroad take part.

On the battlefield there is a three-part Grunwald Monument (Monument of the Grunwald Victory) consisting of a granite obelisk, 11 masts symbolizing the banners of Polish and Lithuanian-Ruthenian banners, as well as an amphitheater with the rooms of the Museum of the Battle of Grunwald, a cinema hall and showing the troops before the plastic map made of colorful stones. Visitors to this place can also see the Jagiełło Mound erected in 1959 by scouts from the ZHP, the Jungingen Stone and the remains of the Grunwald Monument demolished in 1939 by the Nazis.
