De Pont - Museum of Modern Art
Local name: De Pont - Museum voor moderne kunst
The De Pont Museum is a museum that collects and exhibits contemporary art, in particular visual arts, painting and sculpture. The museum's collections include significant works by many recognized Dutch and world artists, such as Marlene Dumas, Bill Viola and Anish Kapoor.
The museum does not have permanent exhibitions, but on the basis of a constantly growing collection usually organizes three temporary exhibitions per year. Sometimes there are also small additional exhibitions, usually dedicated to only one artist.
The De Pont Museum was established in 1988 as a result of the efforts of the Dutch lawyer and entrepreneur JH De Pont, which also derives the name of the museum. The first exhibition was created based on his private collection. Museum De Pont's headquarters are buildings of a former wool spinning mill. The buildings were adapted for the needs of the gallery by the architectural firm Benthem Crouwel.
