Comenius Museum
Local name: Stichting Comenius Museum
The Comenius Museum is dedicated to the figure of the famous Czech scholar Jan Amos Comenius, who lived in the years 1592-1670. After his death he was buried in Naarden and here in 1892 a museum was established about his life and work.
Inside is a permanent exhibition called "Vivat Cornelius" celebrating the versatility of a scholar who was a theologian, philosopher, teacher and printer creator. In addition to this, the museum often organizes temporary exhibitions on various topics revolving around Comenius characters.
It is also worth visiting the local mausoleum, which was established in 1937. In addition to the tomb of Comenius, we also find commemorative plaques for people such as Queen Wilhelmina and the first president of Czechoslovakia. The room's decoration is stained glass and wooden sculptures, and the mausoleum itself received the status of a national monument.
