Muiden Castle
Local name: Muiderslot
Muiderslot is a perfectly preserved 13th-century castle, erected at the mouth of the Vecht River. The first owner was the very influential and powerful ruler Count Floris V. His power, wealth and death at the hands of treacherous vassals in 1296 became the canvas of many literary works. Currently, the castle and the surrounding park are a popular tourist attraction.
Visitors can learn about the history of the castle, told using artifacts from the past (armor, melee weapons, old maps), information boards and multimedia presentations. You can visit the historic halls and the towers towering above the main building. With children in mind, numerous board and multimedia games, play areas and discovering the past were prepared in the castle area and in its vicinity.
A place worth visiting in the park is the Waterschild pavilion (Water Shield). It is an underground multimedia room in which we can learn about the history of Dutch dams and canals. Animated images are projected onto a special water curtain.
