Utrechtse Gate

The structure erected in 1877 replaced the earlier, seventeenth-century city gate. Until 1931, a tram line ran this way - now the gate is a bicycle and walking route. The reliefs adorning the portal depict King William III and his first wife, Zofia Wirtemberska - the centrally placed lion is a symbol of the Netherlands.
