Groothoofds Gate
Local name: Groothoofdspoort
The fourteenth-century city gate is part of the city's non-existent defensive walls. The bas-relief above the entrance is the Virgin of Dortrecht - the personification of free Holland, surrounded by the coats of arms of 16 cities, which in 1568–1648 rebelled against Spanish rule. Currently, the gate houses an exclusive restaurant.
