Dutch Museum of Photos

Local name: Nederlands Fotomuseum

The Nederlands Fotomuseum is a photography museum managing a collection of over 5 million negatives (celluloid and glass), slides and reproductions. The facility has a collection of photos that are very diverse in terms of performance technique and form of presentation, which give a full overview of the achievements of photography from its inception to the present day. Based on its own extensive collections, the museum prepares many thematic exhibitions every year. Nederlands Fotomuseum also presents exhibitions of the most famous Dutch and world photographers.

Henri Cartier-Bresson, Nan Goldin, Lewis Hine, Alfredo Jaar, Josef Koudelka and Viviane Sassen are famous photographers whose exhibitions were presented at the Nederlands Fotomuseum. In addition to photography exhibitions, the museum also presents installations whose material is photography and film.

The museum owes its creation to Hein Wertheimer (1913-1997), a lawyer and passionate photographer who saved all his property for the creation of a Dutch photography museum. It turned out that he had accumulated 22 million guilders (about $ 12 million), thanks to which he managed to launch the facility in 2003.
