Maritime Museum

Local name: Maritiem Museum

Maritiem Museum Rotterdam has in its collections almost a million exhibits related to several hundred years of maritime traditions of the Netherlands. The most interesting and spectacular exhibits are antique boats, fishing boats, sailing and steam vessels, port tugs and pushers, overhead cranes and even lighthouses. Being in the museum you can also get to know the houses on the water, in which many Dutch families live today.

The maritime museum is based on the popular method of personal experience. Visitors can, for example, learn about work on an oil platform, in a bathyscaph at a depth of 3,000. m below the water surface or take on the role of the port crane operator. These impressions are provided by various types of simulators, supported by the possibility of dressing up in real work clothes.

Maritiem Museum Rotterdam has been officially operating since 2014. It was created as a result of merging two autonomous institutions - Maritiem Museum Prins Hendrik and Havenmuseum (Port Museum).
