New Market

Nieuwmarkt is a city square in the center of Amsterdam. The market is dominated by a building known as Waag, which was erected as a gate in the medieval city walls. In the 17th century, the defensive walls were pulled down, and a market was created in the free space surrounding Waag. There are over 20 cafes and restaurants on the square. There is also a daily market here, an organic food market on Saturdays, and an antique and book market on Sunday summer days.
