Moses and Aaron Church

Local name: Mozes en Aäronkerk

Mozes en Aäronkerk is a Roman Catholic church of St. Antoni. Originally it was a secret church, served by Franciscan priests. Its construction began in 1837 and ended in 1841. It was built in the place of the old temple.

The statue at the top of the entrance shows the blessing of Christ. The baroque altar from around 1700 with the painting "Resurrection of Jesus" by Jacob de Wit comes from the original church. Side altars designed in the same style by Suys were equipped with two eighteenth-century statues and four new statues made by De Cuyper. On the walls of the temple there are reliefs of fourteen stations of the cross by the Flemish sculptor Petrus Elysens van den Bossche. The church organ, designed by Charles Marie Philbert, was built by organists from Leeuwarden, the Adem brothers.

Concerts of such famous composers as Charles-Marie Widor and Camilla Saint-Saëns took place in the basilica.
