Houseboat Museum

Local name: Houseboat Museum

The Houseboat Museum is a houseboat that the owner, Vincent van Loon, decided to make available for sightseeing. The museum was founded on the restored freighter "Hendrika Maria", built in 1914. For almost half a century, it was used to transport sand and gravel. After decommissioning, "Hendrika Maria" went into private hands and turned into a floating year-round house.

The usable area of the freighter is about 80 m2. It consists of a bedroom, living room, kitchen and museum shop, where you can buy brochures and books on residential boats. An audio guide available in 20 languages helps you explore the boat.

The idea of opening the museum arose under the influence of frequently asked questions about life on the water: where does the water come from, where does it drain, is it wet. Visitors can personally see what each nook of the boat looks like, ask about everything, sit in an armchair and drink hot chocolate.
