Gallery of arts - Collection Six
Local name: Collectie Six
Collection Six is a museum housed in a private home of the Dutch aristocratic Six family, which dates back to 1032. The residence presents a collection of works of art, collected over the centuries.
The collection offers a unique, insight into the life of a rich family, not only thanks to their historical portraits, but also a villa full of interesting objects and wonderful antique furniture, which remain in everyday use by the descendants of the Six family. Visiting the house is possible thanks to the city of Amsterdam, which covers part of the high cost of conservation of the collection.
The unusually beautiful portrait of Jan Sixth, the mayor of Amsterdam, writer and art collector painted in 1654 by Rembrandt, is the main attraction of the collection. The artist never signed or completed the portrait. And while the other paintings in Six Collection are of lesser value, the entire interior environment, furniture and small artifacts are simply unique.
