The Torcello Provincial Museum is located in the northern part of the Venetian Lagoon. Its resources include a unique collection documenting the history of not only the island itself, but also the beginnings of the city.
The museum has collections from antiquity, the Middle Ages and the present. Among them you can find antique amulets, tableware, jewelry, toiletries and even surgical instruments. An interesting exhibit is the tempera dated 1300 entitled "Christ", or even an altar made of gilded silver from the 13th century.
The museum was founded by Luigi Torella in 1870, and the ceremonial opening took place on May 14, 1889. The island of Torcello is considered a treasury of art due to the monuments of high historical and artistic value. These include the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta with the bell tower, the church of Santa Fosca and two palaces of the Council.
