Porta Maggiore

The ancient gate was built in 52 AD, and two hundred years later incorporated into the defensive Aurelian Wall. Two aqueducts ran through it, the remains of which can still be seen. Two ancient roads ran through here - Via Labicana and Praenestina. The gate consists of two arches, surrounded by three watchtowers.
