Tempio Maggiore di Roma, i.e. the Great Synagogue in Rome, dates from the beginning of the 20th century. Currently, there is the Jewish Museum, where you can see, among others traditional clothes, historic Aron ha-kodesh (altar wardrobe) and menorah. The interior of the temple is decorated with oriental motifs.
An important monument that can be admired in the synagogue are the pipe organ from 1904, the work of the Rieger brothers. There were also plaques commemorating the victims of the Holocaust and the terrorist attack carried out at Rome airport on December 27, 1985 (18 people were killed and 120 wounded).
The synagogue was built in an eclectic style, the authors of the project were: Vincenz Costa and Osvald Armanni. It was established in front of the ancient ghetto. A distinctive aluminum dome stands out from other Roman buildings.
