Museum of the Roman Republic
Local name: Museo della Repubblica Romana
The Museum of the Roman Republic and Remembrance of Garibaldi was opened in 2011. His collection includes unique photographs, engravings and works of art related to Garibaldi and the unification of Italy. This unusual collection documenting the historical continuity of the Risorgimento with Italian resistance of World War II strongly affects the emotions of all visitors. To diversify the tour, multimedia projections, moving animations and interactive stands have been prepared.
In addition to numerous memorabilia of Giuseppe Garibaldi, his wife Anica and their children, one can find in the museum peculiar testimonies of Italian soldiers of the Venezia and Taurinese divisions who were in Yugoslavia during the ceasefire with Allied forces in 1943. Instead of surrendering to German troops, the military formed a partisan group 'Divisione italiana partigiana Garibaldi'.
The museum began its activity on the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.
