The Church of Our Lady of Victory in Rome represents a mature Italian Baroque. The vault is decorated with frescoes by Giovanni Domenic Cerrini depicting the "Triumph of the Virgin Mary over Heresy" and "The Fall of Rebellious Angels". The relics of St. Victoria from Sabina and Turkish banners won by Jan III Sobieski during the relief of Vienna.
The church's name is associated with one of the episodes of the Thirty Years' War. It is about the victory of the Catholic League attributed to Mary's intercession over the Protestant army in 1620. According to legend, at a critical moment of the battle a military chaplain blinded the enemy army with a picture of the holy family from which a beam of light fired. This picture was brought to Rome and deposited in the Carmelite church, which henceforth took the name of Our Lady of Victory.
