The Boncompagni Ludovisi Museum was opened in 1995 and is dedicated to Italian decorative art, costumes and fashion. Its headquarters is the 20th century Art Nouveau villa - the former property of the Boncompagni family. The institution's collections include nearly 800 pieces of clothing and accessories from the 18th to the 20th century. The presented history of the development of Italian fashion and the evolution of social taste will delight not only lovers of 'made in Italy' tags.
In 1972, Princess Blanceflor de Bildt Boncompagni gave the city of Rome her family estate together with original furnishings, works of art and accessories. In accordance with the will of the heir, the building was intended for the promotion of art and culture.
The museum is part of the National Gallery of Contemporary Art in Rome.
