Saint Basilica Chrysogon is one of the oldest Roman Catholic temples in Rome. Its history dates back to the 4th century, and the initiator of the construction was Pope Sylvester I. It is a titular church having the dignity of a minor basilica. The hallmark of the building is the 17th-century building facade and the Romanesque belfry. The phenomenal interior of the temple, and especially the richly decorated floor, will charm lovers of sacred art.

In the fourth century, the alleged Chrysogon house was transformed into the first church. At the beginning of the 8th century, Pope Gregory III enlarged the temple and entrusted it to the Benedictines. Cardinal Scipione Borghese Caffarelli is responsible for the final baroque interior of the church, who in 1623 commissioned the reconstruction of Giovanni Battistie Sori. In the second half The building was renovated in the 19th century. For centuries, the basilica was the national church of Sardinia and Corsica.

Under the current church are the remains of the first temple. The discovery was made during excavations in the first half Of the 20th century.
