The Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zatybrze was founded by Saint. Callisto in 217. It is not only one of the oldest Roman churches, but also the oldest church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the world. The basilica is famous for its Byzantine mosaics. The most important thing is to present saints paying tribute to Christ and the Virgin Mary. In the church you can also find a lot of signs and symbols of the first Christians.
According to historical sources, it was here that the first public Mass was openly celebrated. You can also find a Polish accent here. The temple is entered in the register of titular churches and this means that it is overseen by one of the cardinals. The shepherds of this place were Stanisław Hozjusz, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński and the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Józef Glemp.
