Saint Basilica Bartholomew on the Tiber Island (Basilica di San Bartolomeo all'Isola) in Rome is a place of remembrance of Christian martyrs. A valuable monument is the carved timbered well made of marble, probably from 1000 years. The interior of the temple is decorated with antique frescoes in the Romanesque style.
Visitors will see sculptures of the Savior, Saint. Wojciech of Prague, Saint. Bartholomew and Otto III. Inside the temple, fourteen original ancient Roman columns have been preserved.
The church is famous for its relics, it was placed in, among others relics of St. Bartholomew, one of the 12 apostles. There are also relics of three Polish martyrs: Karolina Kózka, Stanisław Starowieyski and priest Jerzy Popiełuszko. The remains of Emperor Otto II were laid in the temple.
