The Gothic basilica was built in the thirteenth century on the site of the ancient temple of Minerva. From the outside, the attention is drawn to the Renaissance facade with a gothic rosette and an elephant statue standing in front of the temple, on whose back an Egyptian obelisk stands. The richly decorated interior contains numerous works of art and the tombs of several popes.
