Pinerolo is a tourist village and ski resort near the French border. During the Olympics in Turin, curling competitions were held here, and the surrounding slopes and ski runs were the terrain where the athletes came to the competition. It also has a nice Old Town with preserved historic buildings.
Due to its location on an important trade route between Italy and France, Pinerolo was developing as a thriving center already in the early Middle Ages. The most important monument from this period and the main attraction of Pinerolo is the cathedral built in the 9th century with a Romanesque bell tower and a Gothic facade. The historic city center is full of pretty tenement houses and narrow streets, where you can now find numerous restaurants and bars.
The city is situated in a mountainous environment and its surroundings are perfect for skiing. There are several ski resorts here with several dozen kilometers of slopes of various difficulty levels. There are also cross-country ski runs and an indoor ice rink.
