The oldest opera theater in the world built in 1737 at the behest of the king of Naples Charles III Bourbon. The present appearance is due to the reconstruction after the fire in the late nineteenth century, when, among others a huge painting appeared on the ceiling, depicting Apollo presenting the most important poets. The most important opera artists, including Rossini and Donizzeti, created the San Carlo Theater, and its shape became a model for other opera theaters in the world.
