Muggia is the only Italian town on the Istrian peninsula. This historic small resort combines Italian and Balkan influences. It delights with buildings, peace, excellent cuisine and an atmospheric port, from which fishermen still go fishing every day.
The town remains somewhat overshadowed by neighboring Trieste, but is a perfect complement to your stay on the border of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. It has a charming Old Town with colorful tenement houses whose wooden shutters remain closed in the hottest parts of the day. The streets are filled with the smell of coffee and delicacies from local restaurants, and at the tables in the streets you can see both tourists and residents.
Right next to the Old Town there is a small port where mainly fishing boats and owned by the inhabitants are moored. They go out daily to catch fish and seafood, which can then be bought in local taverns. The Muggia also has a second modern port in San Rocco, outside the center. It is a modern marina adapted to the reception of yachts and boats. In the season, ships from all over the world dock here.
