Vertical Forest

Local name: Bosco Verticale

The vertical Bosco Verticale forest consists of two tall, well-thought-out and modern buildings that fit into the historic buildings of Milan. This is an example of ecological construction with a vertical density of greenery, which corresponds to an area of 10,000 m2 of traditional forest. The architects of the Stefano Boeri building, Gianandrea Barreca, and Giovanni La Varra (BOERI STUDIO) won the International Highrise Award in 2014.

The project was inspired by eco-development, revitalization of the environment and biodiversity issues, to afforest the city without the need to increase its area. Their construction was completed in 2012, and was put into use in 2014. The buildings measure 112 and 80 meters, and 780 trees, tens of thousands of perennials and ground cover shrubs were planted on their surface. Skyscrapers have a residential function, there are 113 apartments. Plants have a positive effect on noise suppression and temperature regulation. In addition, skyscrapers are equipped with geothermal heat pumps as well as solar and photovoltaic systems.
