Mareo is a tourist destination in the Dolomites. It lies at the foot of the Kronplatz mountain, a famous ski area, and is surrounded by the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park.
Due to its location, Mareo is primarily a center of active tourism, both summer and winter. There are two ski stations here, Skiarea Miara and Plan de Corones.
Plan de Corones is Mareo's biggest winter and summer attraction. The flat-topped mountain is accessible by hiking, climbing and cable cars. There is a restaurant at the top, an observation deck, walking paths and a climbing park. An unusual place is the MMM Corones center, built into the top. It is one of the centers run by Reinhold Messner, one of the world's greatest climbers from this area. Its interactive exhibitions show the history of classical Himalayan mountaineering and its development in the 20th century.
The Mareo area is famous for its great views and many hiking trails. A particularly popular excursion destination is the Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park, where you can see not only rocky peaks, but also alpine lakes, coniferous forests and mountain pastures.
