The theater was built in the second half of the 18th century at the request of the Manui owners, the Gonzaga family. It is a late baroque building, the interior of which is decorated with rococo splendor. A horseshoe-shaped theater hall with four storeys of boxes is decorated with stuccoes and paintings. The theater is open to visitors as part of the exhibitions presented by the Mantua Museum.
