The Garden Tomb

Local name: The Garden Tomb

The Garden Grave is a rock tomb in Jerusalem, discovered in 1867 and considered by some Christians to be the burial and resurrection place of Jesus. Part of the community rejects this view, believing that the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher is the more likely place where the messiah was buried. The creation of the grave dates back to the 8th-7th century BC. The tomb is located near the Old City in Jerusalem and adjoins the rocky escarpment, which has been considered by Goleges as some scholars since the 19th century.

The tomb in the Garden remains the goal of many Christian pilgrimages, especially Protestants and other Protestants. The grave hewn in the rock is currently located within a well-tended garden, above which there is an inscription in English saying "He is not here because he is risen." The garden is managed by The Garden Tomb (Jerusalem) Association, a Christian non-denominational foundation based in the United Kingdom.

The tomb has two chambers, with stone benches along the sides of each wall, which, despite being damaged, can still be seen. The garden in which it is located is for the faithful a place of worship and reflection, with many places where you can sit and enjoy the surroundings.
