Sellin is a seaside resort on Rügen, famous for its pier and a special gondola where you can immerse yourself in the water for a few minutes. There are wide, sandy beaches here, and a lot of historic buildings have been preserved in the city.
The town has a typical holiday and tourist character. It developed as a health resort since the second half of the 19th century. Thanks to this, in the center, especially on Wilhelmstrasse, you can see many historic villas and guesthouses with carved façade decorations.
Sellin's most important attraction is the sandy, wide and well-developed Sellin Beach. In its central part there is the Sellin pier with a historic pavilion, which houses a ballroom and a café. At the end of the 400 m long pier, there is a Sellin diving gondola. It is a device thanks to which everyone can plunge into the depths of the Baltic Sea for a few minutes and observe the underwater world.
The southern beach with cliffs is an interesting part of the village. It is much more secluded than the main beach, and the cliffs give it a picturesque setting.
