The historic windmill-shaped navigation sign is one of the city's symbols. His image is often used on postcards, guide covers or tourist brochures.
The pond is located at the edge of the Western Breakwater, where Świna flows into the Baltic Sea. The windmill is 10 meters high, and on its top there is a pulsing light. It is associated with the legend, according to which at a time when Świnoujście was developing as a port, many of its inhabitants worked as sailors. After subsequent returns from the voyages, the sailors were getting more and more exhausted, which made their wives uncomfortable. One of them reached the windmill, where the mysterious miller told her to bring her husband there. After a week of visits to the mill, the sailor rejuvenated. The windmill was also visited by others. Until the miller died and left no secret to anyone, and the windmill mechanism stopped working.Less
