Pinakothek der Moderne is a complex of four independent museums: the Museum of Art, Graphic Arts, Architecture and Design; the most famous exhibition hall in the world. It has one of the largest collections of modern and contemporary art, architecture and design in Europe. It is a collection of approximately 500,000 drawings, over 1,000 architects, 200,000 photographs, 1,300 models and numerous architectural sculptures. The oldest preserved drawings come from the 16th century, and the oldest model from the 17th century.
The museum's collections also contain important works in the field of new media. The contemporary art collection is presented at permanent exhibitions. In addition, Pinakothek der Moderne offers temporary exhibitions of architecture exhibits and graphic collections. Multimedia tours are available for permanent exhibitions. The museum offers guided tours. You can buy reproductions, postcards, gifts in the well-stocked museum store. A cafe is also available for visitors.
The museum complex covers an area of over 12,000 square meters. Its opening, after seven years of construction, took place in September 2002.
