The Museum of Arts and Crafts is one of the most important museums of applied art in Europe. It presents the history of applied arts and crafts from ancient times to the present day. The museum was founded in 1874 and was modeled on the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In 1877, it was moved to its current headquarters, a building on Steintorplatz, built in 1873-1875. The original plan was to collect and present both historical and contemporary works of art and craft. The museum was to become a kind of encyclopedic collection of artifacts from the history of culture, recording 4,000 years of human creativity and creativity.
