This is the world's largest complex of related warehouses. These buildings are over 100 years old and present Wilhelmine, neo-Gothic architecture. In 1991, the area was entered on the list of protected monuments, and in 2015 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The complex has several museums: Deutsches Zollmuseum (German Customs Museum), Miniatur Wunderland (the largest of its kind in the world), Hamburg Dungeon and the Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg (International Maritime Museum). The rest of the buildings are mainly warehouses and warehouses, but also restaurants, cafes and shops. Due to its location, the complex can also be visited during a special boat ride.
The buildings were built under the influence of the decision issued in 1888 to establish a duty-free port in this area. Grain, coffee, spices, tobacco and tea were stored here.
