Iron Bridge
Local name: Eiserner Steg
Eiserner Steg is a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Main River and connects the city center with the Sachsenhausen district. It is 170 meters long and consists of a riveted steel truss with two platforms. The bridge was blown up by Wehrmacht soldiers in the last days of World War II, but it was rebuilt a year after the end of hostilities.
The neo-Gothic bridge was built according to the design of Peter Schmick in 1869. Since then, it has been rebuilt and modified several times. It underwent a major renovation for the last time in 1993.
