ESSING tourist attractions

Essing is a historic town in the Altmühl River Valley. The rocky slopes of the valley rise above the buildings, and the city looks glued to them. Many historical buildings have been preserved in the village, and the attractions are wooden bridges across the river.

The origins of the village are related to the local Randeck Castle, which was built in the 11th century. Currently, its ruins rise on the rock above the town and are a popular destination for walks. The village itself is located under a rock, on a small flat on the river bank. An old wooden bridge leads to the city gate. However, the main attractions of Essing also include the modern Tatzwurm wooden bridge, one of the longest wooden bridges in Europe.

Among the historic houses in Essing you can also see the baroque church of the Holy Spirit with rich interior furnishings. There are also traditional Bavarian tiled houses with high wooden gables.

On the outskirts of the town, in the rocks on the slope of the valley, there is the entrance to the Schulerloch Cave, which can be visited with a guide.
