Berliner Unterwelten is an association of underground lovers who transformed their own passions and interests into one of Berlin's latest tourist attractions. In 1998, the association rented a huge shelter at the Gesundbrunnen metro station, where it created a museum and began guided tours of the Berlin underground.
The Berliner Unterwelten Museum presents primarily the history of the largest anti-aircraft shelter in Berlin. It was built for fear of Allied raids for 1300 people. In fact, around 4,000 were protected here. Berliners. An exhibition presenting the history of the shelter and other undergrounds was organized on three levels of the shelter complex, including a tunnel under the Berlin Wall from east to west Berlin.
The tour takes place on 13 leading routes, including through nuclear bunkers, closed metro lines and water supply channels. The Berliner Unterwelten Association currently has several hundred members and serves annually about 300,000 visitors.
