The Collections of Casts of Ancient Sculptures were opened in the second half of the year. Twentieth century and are located at the Free University of Berlin. The collection includes over 2,000 Greek and Roman sculptures. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the facility also has temporary contemporary art exhibitions. Theater performances, concerts, lectures and readings are also held here.
The gallery presents the history of Greek and Roman sculpture from the Cycladic culture of the third century BC, up to the times of the Roman and Byzantine empire of the first century. The collection includes examples of geometric, archaic, classical and Hellenistic sculpture. The exhibition is complemented by exhibits of other ancient Mediterranean cultures.
The collection continues the tradition of the 17th century Berlin Casting Collection, which was significantly damaged during World War II. The exhibition was rebuilt thanks to the cooperation of the Institute of Classical Archeology of the Free University and National Museums.
