Thisted is a town picturesquely situated on the Limfjorden Bay. In its vicinity are the popular tourist island of Mors and the Thy National Park.
The town has medieval roots, but only the late gothic church in Thisted has survived from that time. The development of the city did not begin until the 19th century, when the spit that blocked the mouth of the Limfjorden bay was dug. This made it possible for ships to enter it, and for about a hundred years, Thisted was one of Jutland's largest trading ports.
Currently, the port and the Thisted Harbor are mainly used for tourist purposes, although fishing boats are also moored here. Most of the space, especially in the high season, is occupied by sailboats and yachts.
The Thisted Center is built with houses from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Among them there is a Classicist villa which houses the Thisted Museum and the surroundings of the market square with the Old Town Hall built on the model of the Renaissance Rosenborg Palace. On the coast, military enthusiasts can see the Klitmöller Coastal Battery.
