Skjern is a small town on the vast Ringkobing Fjord. There are many canals, swamps and backwaters in its vicinity, and one of the main attractions of the area is the Aviation Museum located in the vicinity.
The town was founded in the mid-twentieth century as a result of the merger of several settlements, the inhabitants of which were mostly farmers and fishermen. To this day, buildings typical of villages rather than cities predominate. Local sights are the Skjern Windmill and the still operating thatched Bundsbæk Mill.
The vicinity of Skjern is ideal for people who like nature tourism. Many water and marsh birds nest above the fjord and the backwaters, which can be watched from the walking trails and the Skjernådalen viewing platform. The most beautiful and valuable natural area is under the protection of the Skjern Enge reserve.
The biggest attraction of Skjern is the Danish Aviation Museum, where you can see the planes and helicopters used in the army and civilian fleet from the beginning of the 20th century. In the Dejbjerg Jernalder museum, you can see what the life of the inhabitants of these areas looked like in the past. A popular place, especially for family recreation, is the rope park, Park Wow.
