HVIDE SANDEDenmark
Fiskeriets Hus
Local name: Fiskeriets Hus
The museum is dedicated to the history of Hvide Sande and the environmental impact of the drainage lock on Ringkøbing Fjord. A separate exhibition tells about the accident of the local lifeboat on December 9, 1951, in which five men of the eight-person crew died.
The museum is connected to the marine aquarium. In several tanks of different sizes, you can see fish from the North Sea, especially on the Danish coast. There is also a special tank here where children can try to touch flatfish, starfish or crab. In addition, there are freshwater aquariums that house fish from Danish rivers, streams and lakes.
In a spacious room in the basement of the building, you can see the original seagoing ship built by Jens Lausten around 1850.
