The Arion Fountain is located in the Upper Square in Olomouc. Three groups of sculptures depict: the semi-mythical Greek poet Arion in the company of a dolphin, the allegorical obelisk set on the shell of a large turtle, and the figures of two children standing on smaller turtles. Next to the fountain, another tiny turtle walks. Since 2005, you can bathe in the fountain pool, thanks to which Olomouc became the only city in the Czech Republic with a public swimming pool on the Market Square.
The Arion Fountain was planned in the first half of the 18th century. The idea came alive twice - in the 19th and the end of the 20th century. Ultimately, the fountain was created on the occasion of entry into the 21st century, and its solemn commissioning took place on September 27, 2002. The author of the project is a famous sculptor from Olomouc, currently living in France, Ivan Theimer.
