Chapel of the Lord's Mortal Anxiety
Local name: Kaple Smrtelných úzkostí Páně
The Chapel of the dying of Christ is a small baroque building standing next to the church of Saint Nicholas in České Budějovice. It was probably built as a superstructure over the morgue located below it. It is a round building with a two-tower facade. Inside you can see a painting depicting God the Father surrounded by angels.
The chapel was built in the years 1727-1731 on the site of the medieval chapel of Saint George. In 2005, archaeologists discovered a crypt under which the remains of the dead were placed. The chapel's call also indicates its funerary character. During the Josephine reform, the chapel served as a warehouse. It was renovated only at the end of the 19th century.
The chapel is covered with a flattened dome covered with tiles and topped with a lantern. Turrets at the facade also have similar coverings. Inside is the altar of an unknown author with a picture of Christ in Ogrojec.
